5.1 Surround Sound

Ok, this has probably been asked a lot, but I can't find an answer on the net for this and I can't seem to fix it myself.

I've just downloaded and am testing Xandros 3.0-OCE, and it seems to have detected my soundblaster live 5.1 card fine, but it refuses to play sound through my 6.1 speakers. I've managed to get 2.1 sound of it (two front speakers + sub) but it wont use the rear or center speakers. I've had this problem in Suse 9.1, 9.2, and Ubuntu. I managed to get all speakers working in Suse 9.1 but have absolutely no idea how i did it.
So, i know it CAN be done, all i need to know now is how...
any and all help is appreciated
