I connected 5.1 speaker configuration to my fedora 14 machine. There are three ports for plug-in speakers pins, and I am having three pins to plug-in in. But on testing, only two speakers connected with a single pin are working, the screen shot of pulse audio is attached. Also the sound quality is suppressed, I am getting better sound in Ubuntu and all is working fine in Ubuntu but in Fedora it is not working properly. I think may be in pulse audio it is showing only 1 output , is a problem, I guess, it should show 3 output , am I right ?

I hope my query will be resolved here regarding enabling 5.1 speaker configuration on Fedora 14.

Hi ashwinipatankar, Welcome to LQ. Please post the output from the following:

Code:

$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

Good luck. ;-)

Hello Peacedog,

recently I inspired my room partner to use linux and he settled with Fedora, the problem that I stated , is with his machine. If the problem will not get resolved then I do not think he will ever give try to linux. First, I suggested him about Ubuntu, but he did not liked that, so he opted for fedora. I hope we will get some solution.

$ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codec
Codec: VIA VT1708B 8-Ch

for second:
cat /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
cat: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf: No such file or directory

We need to check your alsa version. I believe this chip is supported by the latest version.

Good luck. ;-)

Any chance ??

You might try the HDA_Analyzer or an Alsa upgrade. The latest version is 1.0.24.

Good luck. ;-)
