4 port USB network server via TCP/IP
 

I am running Fedroa 20 64 bit. Gnome 3 desktop

Recently I was given a 4 port USB network server. the connection to the network being by TCP/IP. I thought this would be ideal to plus a couple fo my USB Hard drives into and make then available on the home network for the other machines as part of the family network.



I can get Thunderbird to see the web page of the device (there is no manufactures name or model no on the device or the packing except to say it is made in China). So I have been unable to see if there is any special instructions to be able to view the plugged in USB hard drives drives on he USB network server.

Looking at similar devices, there does not seem to any one supporting linux as one of he operating systems.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the server to work on a linux box.

Can I mount the device in the normal way? what files system needs to be entered jn the mount command? etc etc. Yes I will have to set up a folder in mnt or media folders for the mount command.

Be interested to hear how to set one of these up.

The webpages might provide some clues if there are configuration pages for setting up shares. If the device does not require drivers then you should be able to mount the shares via cifs. Nautilus has a built in CIFS/SMB client so you can browse the network looking for shares without having to set up anything first.

I've one of these and it needs software installed on the client PC, once the client is installed the devices on the USB server can be accessed and appear as normal USB devices.

My guess is that the client software emulates a USB hub device.

I've only used mine with Windows so can't help with a Linux driver unfortunately.

I agree and that the probability of this working with linux is not very good.
