Are you sure you selected the correct option in the kernel? The driver is clearly not getting loaded by the kernel.

When I compiled my kernel, I included the "ATI Radeon" driver, under Direct Rendering. It is a module, perhaps it is not being loaded by default?

What is the output of 'lsmod' and 'modinfo radeon'?

lsmod
Code:
Module Size Used by
snd_intel8x0 20227 0
snd_ac97_codec 84861 1 snd_intel8x0
ac97_bus 601 1 snd_ac97_codec
b43legacy 113871 0
ssb 30081 1 b43legacy
modinfo radeon simply says, "ERROR: modinfo: could not find module radeon." This may be because I compiled it into the kernel, not as a separate module.

Ah yes, my apologies, I had to recompile the kernel, as I am also trying to get my wifi set up, and I when I recompiled I did indeed include the radeon driver in the kernel, not as a module.

Please show your kernel configure file.

EDIT: Also, does acceleration work with the stock Slackware 13.37 kernel?

I think it might be working now, but I haven't had a chance to try any "heavy" things like games, however glxgears is now running at about 112 fps, as opposed to 30 fps of earlier. I'll be back once double checked if it's working now.
