Unhappy 1GB Pen drive not working after formatting in Linux

Hi folks,

I am trying to install RHEL 5.I have a SATA hard disk.To apply the patch ata_piix-0.93c-1c.tar i used the Pen drive. Then the same pen drive is shown up as /dev/sdb. Then it asked do you want to format /dev/sdb.I clciked ok without knowing that /sdb is the Pen drive. Now when i insert the same pendrive in my windows,it is detecting the pen drive, but shows the free space as 0 Bytes and when i click on the Removable disk(:L) i.e., the pen drive folder,it says please insert the disk.

I can't understand why this is happening. How could i get back my Pen drive to normal state. Please suggest.

P.s: This is my friend's pen drive .If i doesn;t return it to him in a good condition he will definitely screw me .so please help me to recover the pen drive.

Thanks in advance.

Regards
Srini...

Sounds like the pen drive was formatted with a Linux filesystem. The output of
Code:
fdisk -l
as root (that's a lowercase L after the dash) with the drive plugged in will tell you what format it is. If it's not fat32/ntfs, windows won't recognise it by default.

To get it back to how it was, either format it in windows, or format it in linux with fat32 as the filesystem.
