LinuxQuestions.org - 1920x1080 appears as 1536x1080@62Hz on VIZIO VO22L FHDTV

Hello.

I'm trying to use the Vizio VO22L FHDTV as a computer monitor.

I have a Thinkpad X41 tablet and a fairly stock Slackware 12.0 install.
I'm using the "intel" driver for the thinkpad's i915 graphics chip. I thnk the version of X.org is 1.3.0 and I believe and intel driver is 2.1.0. Basically it's whatever came with Slack 12.0

My xorg.conf (don't have it handy right now) was configured with xorgsetup and does not specify any modes, modelines, etc.

The TV works fine at 1920x1080 with a Dell (XP), Thinkpad X60 Tablet (Vista), my desktop on with an x1650 (XP), and my laptop (XP). I had to use PowerStrip on XP for my laptop to get the resolution to work.

I've also tried 915resolution, but I don't think I need it as X can get and set 1920x1080 when I plug in the TV and start it. When it tries to display the first 1920x1080 mode, the picture is stretched horizontally beyond the sides and the TV thinks it's receiving a 1536x1080@62Hz signal. If I run

xrandr --output VGA --mode 1920x1080 --rate 50

The TV now thinks it's running at 1920x1080@60Hz, but the display is too narrow. I played with the rate and it seems like the switching point between 1920x1080 and 1536x1080 is around --rate 59.95.

There is also a second 1920x1080 mode with a higher pixel clock and that gives the same results as the "1536x1080" signal forced to a lower rate.

I feel like I'm close to this, but I've been playing the the modelines last night and couldn't get it to work right. I tried using the mode that gives a narrow picture and then widening it by reducing the horiz total. It works until the monitor thinks it's getting 1536x1080 again.

Any ideas?
