1400*1050 resolution Dell 510m
All,
With XP, I can set the resolution of the screen of my DELL 510m to 1400*1050. I can not get this resolution under Mandrake 10.1 Community. I have heard about a tool 855resolution that should help in getting this resolution. I have installed it but unfortunately was never able to get that resolution. Please help .... Thanks |
hi,
for 510m video driver troubles just go to http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/ download the software (follow the instruction in the README file), compile it & add this line (for Novell Suse Linux) /usr/sbin/855resolution 3c 1400 1050 to the file /etc/init.d/boot.local save & restart u r computer. It should works fine! bye |
Hello Alscapin,
I did that when I had Mandrake 9.2 on my laptop and it worked fine. Now I have intalled Mandrake 10.1 and even with this last Linux, even when I apply the similar patch, I am in trouble. I think the problem comes from the fact Mandrake 10.1 comes with X.org installed which was not the case previously (XFree86 for Mandrake 9.2). Some major underlying changes may have been made since X.org forked and released the code used by Mandrake. Maybe the fixes are now incompatible? Can anyone help? What is really very strange is that when I run the Suse Linux 9.2 eval, I can switch without any problem to 1400 * 1050. Any suggestion ? Thanks in advance, Vincent |
I have a Dell 510m too. But I can't even get my graphic working. X server doesn't start. I tried to use many different options, like 1028X1024 with 855 controller and etc. But never get it working. I also tried to install the 855resolution and 855patch, but they don't work either. Anyone can guide me step by step at least get the X server working even at low resolution??
I agree that Mandrake 9.2 (which is XFree86) works fine but it has no wireless support. So, I'm trying to install Mandrake 10.1 official (which is X.org) . The video card is an Intel 855GM with 64Mb VRAM. The BIOS version is A07 which (according to the website) is the latest patch for this machine. Please help...... |
I have the same problems on my 510m with SXGA+ Display (Bios Version is A07).
On my 510m MDK 10.1 works only @ 1024x768 (XGA). My Settings are: 855 Chipset Dell Notebook Display 1400x1050 Resolution 1024x768 I didnt try the patch, cause im sure it will not work. |
All,
after some investigations, it seems it is a well known bug. Please find more information here : https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2032 which concludes with "the i830 and upwards ignores modelines and uses the BIOS to do the mode setting so it can only use BIOS supplied mode lines... you might give 855resolution a try so you can add the line to your BIOS.. google for 855resolution it might also work with the latest Xorg CVS as well as Alanh mentions getting more info from the BIOS.... we can do nothing about it as Intel don't give this info out...." Would you have more information? Thanks in advance, Vincent |
All,
I have installed the patch written by A. Poirier (855resolution that can be found here : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/). I have also upgraded my BIOS (v 0.8) and now everything is working fine with Fedora Core 3.0 |
