[Sound prob]Kmixer cannot get out of 'Mute' status - openSUSE 11.1

Hello guys !
I've just installed openSUSE 11.1 on my new laptop - HP HDX 16 (cheer ! :P). Everything works fine but the sound. In the Kmixer I see the master channel is PCM, and it always mutes. As a result, no sound available. I tried to change the status of the PCM master but it didn't work. It's status is always "Mute".

My sound card is a Intel HDA.

I have tried to change the master channel to "Front" or "Headphone" but still no luck. Those channels weren't mute but no sound coming out.

I've searched through many posts, tried to use alsamixer ... Nothing works.

So I need your helps, guys. If there's anything unclear about my situation, just ask me, because I don't know what information I can provide you to debug this.

Thank you.

Check if there is a file /etc/asound.state and rename it to something else. Take a look at the module installation to see if you have all the necessary modules loaded[CODE]modprobe|grep snd{/CODE]
Then run alsamixer as root and if Master unmutes (using "M") then run
Code:
alsactl store
to keep your settings in the new /etc/asound.state

After spending an hour on trying to get the sound on openSUSE, I realized another bug: if I sleep the computer, I can never get it back until restart . Whenever I type the password to wake her up, everything freezes. I've heard KDE is so buggy and I gave it up, come back to Fedora 10 with GNOME.

Anyway, thanks Bathory for replying, after trying your suggestion, the step "run alsamixer as root" could not be done. (I can't remember exactly what the error message is because I'm on Fedora now ).

In fedora, I still have problem with sound, which I will post it later in a more appropriate topic title.

PS: I'll wait for your help in my new topic .

Mute

When I installed openSUSE 11.0 I had no sound, but not a mute sign. Sound was there but the settings were incorrect, including the outputs.

In KMix you can select which is the master channel and make other changes with a right mouse click

Did you try the settings in Administrator Settings,Hardware, Sound. You can reconfigure your sound with Edit or check it with Other and the drop down menu. Try a sound test. The menu item Volume gives you settings for sound production that you can change, some the same as in Kmix, others different.

Good Luck
