Thumbs up [SOLVED] ATI ES1000, MPlayer, VLC, Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX, Black Screen

Hey all.

I'm trying to get either Mplayer, or VLC to produce some nice v4l2 output, but so far, I've only been able to get a blank, black screen to come up.

System: Dell Poweredge 1900
OS: Debian Lenny (5.0) 64-bit
Kernel: 2.6.30-bpo.1-amd64
Video: 0f:0d.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc ES1000 (rev 02)
Webcam: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:08d7 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX

I fire up mplayer (or vlc), and this is what I get:

http://omploader.org/vM2FzMw

And of course, here's my obligatory xorg.conf, as maybe a second or third set of eyes will see something that I've missed, NOTE: This ATI card cannot do DRI!

If you specify '-vo x11' as an argument to mplayer, does it work?

You can make that a default in mplayer by putting this line in ~/.mplayer/config :

vo=x11

vlc has a video output preference as well that should let you specify "X11 video output"

More for my own curiosity than anything, can you show the output of 'xvinfo'?

I'll send that over ASAP.

Thanks again! I'm just messing around using webcams for whatever, secure workstations while I'm AFK, etc.

Guys - i have an ibm x3650 7979 - and when i boot the server - i get a blank/black screen where the login console prompt should appear.
Do you guys have a fix for that one ? sounds very similar - my lcspi reads the following:

01:06.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc ES1000 (rev 02)

thanks
