*** No rule to make target `modules'. Stop. Help

Hello all,

After MANY days I've been trying to set up my analogue TV USB Box with an empia 28xx driver. I had this running in the previous version of my distro (Linux Mint). However, I cannot get it running. I've followed many different "how tos" without success. The most persistent error is in the "make" process. I get this error message:

Code:

 *** No rule to make target `modules'.  Stop.

I seems that this is trying to put the modules somewhere but the build file is not saying where or the the place doesn't exist. (I am guessing).

Any help on how to solve this would be appreciated. (Build-essential *is* installed - that's always the first question)

This is highly frustrating.

Are you sure you're in the right directory?

thanks for your reply,

the simple answer is "no". I am running the build from within the directory where the make files sits. I'm not sure this is right, but it is what I'm doing. Any advice?

What does the README (or similar) stipulate ?.
What have you done - we can't help if we don't know that.

I've basically tried to install a em28xx TV card driver. (I had it working before the distro upgrade). I followed these instructions when upgrading:

All okay up to the build part. The complete error message is this:

Don;t know what I've done to it. I've loaded losts of packages over the years (not that I'm an expert) but this one just doesn't play the game.

The README file has a couple of lines listing drivers beginning with "The current directory has the empia 28xx driver." Mmm.

Yep, tried that.

I do recall three FAIL messages when I installed the headers last time. the message said to manually fix the problem. What the problem was I don't know but the uname-r said they were up and running.

Perhaps I need to do a fresh install and start again.

I realize that the question is dated, but for anyone that is interested having the same problem was cured when I edited Makefile.am and saw the *.c file alone with no path.
I simply put app_SOURCES =./src/app.c instead of just app.c. It compiled and revealed all my errors, which is fine. Hope this is of use sometime somewhere.
