*** flat panel config problem ***
 

I am using Samsung Flat Panel. I can't get my linux working with this monitor. It always complains about "video mode not support" when I switch to graphical user-interface.

I have searched through Xfree86 documents and seems that there isn't much help on this topic.

As far as I know, flat panel doesn't have any horizonal and vertical frequency unlike CRT; so what sort of parameters are relevant to flat panel? What parameters I should adjust in the modeline?

Is the modeline generator (see the URL below) applicable to flat panel?

I have setup many laptops to use Linux and all of them have flat panel LCD displays. Try using one of the generic LCD options in the xconfiguratior.

As far as I know LCD monitors do still use horizonal and vertical frequencies. On reluctant laptops I have used the multisync settings (I cant remember the settings but you should be able to look them up).

Are you using the DVI port on your flat panel, by any chance? The stock kernel video card drivers typically don't cooperate very well with digital ports. I guess the developers figure that if you're using your DVI you should be using the official drivers written for your video card (NVidia or whatever).

If you don't want to use the NVidia (or whatever you card happens to be) official drivers, try configuring it to use the analog RGB port (which will use horizontal and vertical refresh rates) .

Some more info about connector, video card, and monitor model might help if this doesn't. Good luck

yes, paul , i think you're right; TFT does have some sort of vertical frequency. After i've input all those frequencies and refresh rates stated in the monitor manual into the web page I posted above, the web page suggested me a modeline. Everythings work fine after i put that modeline in the XF86config-4 file.
