Yum update, booting takes lot of time

hi guys...i wanted to update all the packages using #yum udpate
but after everything was sorted out, i got a message saying 945 MB of stuff needs to be downloaded, and with the connection i have, its gonna take days to download and install everything so, i choose to update those things which are utmost important to me, so i updated MySQL and PHP, but after the updates, the system takes more than 10 mins to boot up. what do you think i should do?
