Xwindow problem

Hello,

Last night my system worked correctly.
But today Xwindow can't start. I start the computer and all services responce OK but the login screen not appears and the monitor don't show anything and goes to standby mode frequently.

Can you help me?

How can I start the system in text mode?

Thanks

hi,

in order to start linux in textmode you should tell lilo to start in runlevel 3.

while you see the lilo start menu press ctrl x
then press tab to see a list of bootable kernels,
type: <kernelname> init 3

that it

firstly you'll need a linux bootdisk, if you didnt make one during installl good on you :D just toddle off to google and search for tmsrtbt.

Boot off this floppy and mount you /dev/(linux partition)

bounce into /etc/inittab and your are looking for a line something like this

id:3:initdefault:

i think for gui login its something like 5?, not too sure though but for a command login it should be 3 as above :D

or as the guy above me said :)
