Been trying to get MP3 files to play in any program other RealPlayer, which I can't stand. XMMS simply loops back to the file browser when I choose a song and click on Play. Pretty much the same thing with the other players.
I remember reading something about SUSE compiling all their multimedia applications specifically without MP3 support. Your best bet would be to recompile XMMS from source or see if there are any alternative XMMS binaries for SUSE.
Sorry, should have mentioned that I've only been using Linux for about a week now. Could you try to break that down into simple terms, if that's possible? Is there something I can download? Also, why would RealPlayer be able to play them without any problem?
Thank you thank you thank you!! Worked like a charm. Now, who provides LEGAL (paid) MP3 files with either a website interface or a software one compatible with Linux?
If that's a real question at the end there - the answer is no one. DRM only works with apple and MS. But if you want free legal MP3s, do some searches - there are plenty of indie bands giving them away to get noticed.

Yep, real question indeed. And that's not a bad idea -- you just reminded me that downloads.com provides that service for indie bands. That's how I stumbled upon The Postal Service (you may know their sound from the early promo for the ABC TV show Grey's Anatomy.
