Question XMMS & Cdrom Problem

I just installed XMMS under the latest RedHat release. I can't seem to get it to recognize my Cdrom... although I know XMMS is something of a WinAmp clone, I figured it would still play cd's.

I did all the updates for RH, to no avail.

the /mnt directory contrains a subdirectory titled "cdrom1".
so, i tried to point xmms to /mnt/cdrom1, no dice.
so i try the basic /mnt/cdrom, no luck there either.

Er, if the generic cd player will play cd's, any ideas why I can't get xmms to do it? (again, unless it's not supposed to )

Thanks!

In order to play the CD, you do not need to point xmms to the /mnt/cdrom directory, you need to point it to the device... try [i]/dev/cdrom[/b]. If you're unsure of which device is your cdrom drive, then take a look at your /etc/fstab file and look at the line that mentions /mnt/cdrom.

the xmms with redhat 8.0 doesn't support mp3/cd "audio" plugin you have to download xmms that support this plugin http://www.google.com/linux.

I think you also need to get the CD Audio player Plugin for Xmms, for it to be able to play Audio cd's.

What?!?! RedHat removed the plugin for playing audio CDs too? Why did they even bother to put xmms in at all if they're gonna take out almost all of its functionality? Damn!

yea it's pretty messes up what they did with XMMS....I'm not sure whether or not they took out also Audio CD support....it would seem rather odd. But..it could've happened,
