Angry XGL - why is opengl performance less?


im not going to say its slow, but open gl is slower in xgl, google earth and steam take a noticeable hit. using goforce 6800 card, i used this tutorial to install

i am NOT using mesa, using the nvidia drivers, mesa grinds everything to a halt
any ideas?

Um, because it's not production ready yet? From the FreeDesktop.org web site: "It is at an early stage in development...". It also doesn't implement some accelerations (indirect GLX rendering), so it should be somewhat slower.

XGL is a technology preview, not something that you should really be using on a regular basis, unless you are supporting the development and testing effort.
