XFree86 - Matrox G400

I have installed Debian 3.0 and set up XFree86, however when running "startx", it gives an error. I have tried changing to the latest Matrox drivers, but that just fixed a warning about mga_hal not being present.

The hardware I am using: Athlon 1700+, Abit KG7-RAID motherboard, Matrox G400.

The error:
Quote:

(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found
--end: XFree86.0.log--
I have looked for information about screens not having a usable configuration, but it seems to be a common error, with no single cause.

Any help would be great :)

Post your XF86Config (located in /etc). It sounds like you just need to tweak your screens for resolution and color depth. You may also need to set the monitor vert. and horiz. refresh. We'll know more after seeing the config file.
