xfree86 for graphical environment used only via ssh

I have an hp c360, which runs Sarge, without a graphics card and has a screen ouput from the serial line, not from the vga port (BIOS configuration). It runs sshd and i always use it via ssh. However, i'd like also to have a graphical environment and so i installed xfree86. When i was asked for the configuration details, during the installation, i entered info having to do with the PC from which i enter the c360; the PC has an ATI Radeon 7500 and a Syncmaster 172v. However, when i tried "startx" the message "no screens found" came up. The configuration seems logical, because the x-server of the c360 uses the monitor and graphics card of my PC.
Is this wrong?
What should i do?

Depends a lot on how you term a graphics interface. I have a server running Debian woody with no screen, keyboard or mouse and all comms is via ethernet with ssh. There are two ways in which I use it graphically. I use kde and the main way I communicate is with KBear which is an sftp/ftp client. I can view, edit and transfer files graphically via ssh. The second method is to use konqueror and then use the command fish://<ip_address>. I do not have a x-server on the box.
