Xchat Proxy


I know how to get xchat to run througha proxy but i dont know what settings it should be any idea. Maybe an ip/port. With an type specified to test?

Are you actually behind a proxy server? Only your sysadmin could tell you the specific settings to use behind your own network. Unless you can provide all details here on the setup, we are not much help as we'd only be guessing to get it to work.

Sorry, err not behind a proxy but want my xchat to go through a proxy in order to hide my IP. I know you can set it up not sure how though, Any help apreciated

Well, not sure why you need to hide your IP but if you want to go thru a proxy, you have to set one up first or use one that someone else allows access to, etc. Why are you wanting to hide your IP? If its for malicious reasons, well, my help will stop now as we don't associate in such ways.

Not really rather to stop those people from getting me :-D. Not the other way around.

A bit paranoid I take it..

Even thru a proxy that you setup, it will display its IP so from your own connection and ISP, its still going to be your same IP, so unless you can spoof or proxy from outside your own connection.. I still fail to see the point of hassle.

Paranoid definately, i am very new to linux so i dont want my icle box to get damaged.. Anyways i have found this http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html <list of free proxy servers> With one of thiose how do i set it up?
