X11 occasionally hangs
I'm using X.org's XFree86/X11 on Arch Linux 0.7 (Wombat) with the XFCE 4.2.0 window manager. Sometimes just when I click on something, X hangs. The mouse cursor can still move, however. It's only X, because my gAIM and XChat beep when I get new messages. However, I can't quit X. All sorts of combinations of shift, alt, ctrl, backspace and esc have been tried, none of which will stop/restart X. It's very annoying, because this happens two or three times a day. I don't think it's my hardware, because I can compile the kernel just fine (from my experience, if the processing hardware is damaged, recompiling the kernel is the best way to test for this). Suggestions?

hi m8 :)
what graphics card drivers are you using? if it was me though i would try a different window manager (just for a day or something) to see if it still crashes, and then try updating stuff (XFCE, X11, graphics card drivers, etc etc). Let me know how you get on  |
From /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "Device" Identifier "** NVIDIA (generic) [nv]" Driver "nv" #VideoRam 65536 # Insert Clocks lines here if appropriate EndSection I will try a different window manager tomorrow. |
I've used KDE the whole day today and not a single crash. Damn it, I liked XFCE! How can I fix it? :(
