X Windows Server USB
I am trying to find an X Windows Server for Windows XP that can be run off of a USB key. Some of the systems that I use I am not allowed to install anything on but I would still like to be able to connect to x windows in order to run certain things. I plan to use Putty to forward the X11. Putty does not need to be installed so I am looking for something like that in an X server. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would really appriciate it.

Not exactly what you want, but I thought about Qemu?
|
I have never used Qemu, but I don't think it would work all that well for this application, from what I read on its website atleast.
Unless I am not getting something |
I was thinking about using Qemu + DSL (Damn Small Linux) and use it as an X server.
It is a crappy solution, if you don't find something better. I know about some X servers for windows, but I don't know if it is possible to run them without installing. Free are : xming, cygwin/X unfree are : reflection X, Hummingbird Exceed. |
Humm that could work, but like you said it is not the best solution, but I will keep it in mind. Hopefully one of the other members here might have an idea about another possible solution.
That is why I ask questions here, generally people are smarter then me :D |
Cygwin can run an X server, and run off a USB drive - I've done it myself, in fact..
|
Maybe I will have to give that a try. Would be so much easier if an xserver for windows existed that didn't need to be installed. But I guess not :p
