X-windows server/client?
I'm a relative linux newbie so please go easy on me if I ask a stupid question.....
I read that the windows-X system gnome and GUI's alike use is client/server based. Does this means it's possible to run a X-windows client on a remote system to use my local X-server? Kamil |
The short answer would be, YES. The long answer would be, ahh, YES. For example, if you wanted to run X on an MS Windows box, load http://www.cygwin.com/ on to it, and you can display an X application on your MS windows machine thar's running on a UNIX/Linux box.. Cool. -mk

Thanx for the reply :)
I started searching for a X-client for windows and found winaXe. Been experimenting with it but didn't get very far. No matter if I use REXEC, RSH or RLOGIN I always get 'Couldn't connect to host'. So I'm thinking maybe I should change the configuration of the X-server so accept remote connection or some thing like that.....Any suggestions?? Kamil |
If these are two different systems? then you can just set up sshd (ssh daemon) for access to your remote machine. That's what i'd suggest, and it's alot more secure...You may find documentation on setting it up here in a thread or in your distros documentation etc...

These are two different machines and reviewing my post it might have been better suited fot the networking board.
I'll make a new post there explaining my setup and questions. Kamil |
