Question X sserver Problem


hello,
when I want to run startx in command prompt, I recive this error massage "waiting for X server to shut down "!!
but I can run xdm and if I change my init leve to 5, X server can be up.

Are you sure your X server is not already running? Try Alt-F7, to see wether it is already there, or check with ps a if there is a xinit process.
If you really want to start a second x server, which is then located at Alt-F8 try
startx -- :1
