x screen scrolls

Ok, I've seen a lot of questions about this, but not a lot of answers. I just finished reinstalling debian on my computer - seems I got a virus in windose and the mbr and primary partition got corrupted. Anyways, I went through xf86config to get the right driver and settings for display card/monitor. After working through some issues with getting my mouse configured correctly, my screen scrolls. When the resolution is set to anything higher than 640x480 I have to move hte mouse over to make the screen scroll to be able to see everything.

I'm running Debian Sarge. It's a AIT Radeon 7000 card, I'm using the radeon drive for x. I've got a Gateway Vivitron 17" monitor that I've found the h and v syncs and whatnot. I'm not new to this - like I said I just re-installed debian. I think I had this problem the first time around as well, but I was using a different display card, and these setps fixed it last time I thought.

Thanks for any help.

just to follow up with this, ctrl alt and + or - doesn't make a difference. That just scrolls through the resolution options, and I know how to change that. it only all fits o my monitory at 640x480.

Also, I've seen a lot of references to virtual deskops, but there's no such lines in the xf86config file.

Any ideas?

It's not a common problem, well the lack of responses suggests that anyways... But the stuff at http://wiki.x.org/wiki/FAQVideoModes and http://accessibility.freestandards.o...50126-mag.html might be useful. I can't vouch for it yet though.
