X remotely

I have a server that I'd really like to keep as command line.

But I would also like to be able to access a Gui from another machine on the LAN.

I need to set it up so I can VNC from another computer on the LAN to my server, but still keep the normal machine a terminal.

I think a VTY is due here, but I'm not sure how to do this.

Thanks!

I would suggest to use ssh X forwarding. It's faster and easyer then VNC (IMHO).

VNC is terribly slow. You should consider trying the following:

1) Nomachine NX (http://www.nomachine.com/)
2) XDMCP
3) SSH with X forwarding (ssh username@server -CX)

I'd use ssh forwarding, too. It's easy to set up and support. You just have to remember to change your DISPLAY variable to the IP of the X server you want to throw to before you execute a gui app.
