x problems

i seem to be having an issue while starting x..

i log in as a normal user from a text interface,
type startx
x begins, juuuust starts, then exits. it flashes up for a second...

it doesn't print any errors, it just exits back to text mode.

if i log in as any other user, it works fine.

what do i need to do?

I would start by checking your config file for X
/etc/X11/XF86Config

make sure it is trying to use the proper video card. Also is this a sudden problem or has it never worked?

Edit: I re-read your post..... Also try to check out the /home/<users>/.bashrc for discrepencies. That's kind of a long shot, but there you go.

G'day talking goat,

I don't know linux Valhalla, but you must have some sort of log of X starting. At a minimum, find out where valhalla logs.

If you get a Xfree86.log file you are in for a hunt at finding out what is going wrong.

Basic configuration must go to runlevel 5. Have you checked /etc/inittab ?
