What graphical Linux program would be best for writing a machine bootable CD?

Eroaster has a clean interface, x-cdroast is among the best GUI's that provides ultimate performance of its backend part - cdrecord;all of them are frontends to cdrecord, there is another one ... gcombust I guess I am not sure of the name, but it has a nice and clean interface.

to make the cd bootable you need to put the boot files on it, if you are building an image you can specify the boot image when you make it, you can use the contents of a bootable floppy if you want

How do you create a boot image?

Also, Eroaster does not seem to work right. Everytime I hit "burn", it just sits there. And Gtoaster will only burn audio / mp3 files. Any odeas on that?

depends on what you want to boot.

you can make a bootable floppy then use it.

mkisofs -a -b floppy.img -c boot.catalog -f -l -r -J -L -o output.iso /cdsources/

-a -- Allow files that contain "~" and "#" in the filename. Please note that this option is only used for older versions (1.12 and older) of mkisofs.

-b specifies the boot image to be used.

-c boot.catalog -- creates a boot catalog.

-f -- Follow symbolic links.

-l -- Allow long (32 character) file names

-r -- Sets file permissions.

-J -- Includes Joliet extensions.

-L -- Allows filenames to begin with ".".

/cdsources -- Specifies that the directory /cdsources is the root of the CD image.

you can omit most of the options if you don't need them

once you have the bootable iso you can burn it with any burner software that supports image to disk.
