WordPerfect for Linux -- pilot project?
I recently sent an e-mail to Corel stating my interest in a Wordperfect Office 11 Linux port, or at least Crossover's full support, as I would like very much to be able to run the latest version of WP, natively, on my Linux box(es). The response I got was slightly less conventional than I expected:

I wish more companies would make linux software.

Yeah, me too. Funilly enough, Corel used to fully support Linux but then they sold all their Linux stuff to Xandros (which has been moving the product along very well)
It really is a shame though that there's "nothing" in the Corel store! They shouldn't have told me to check there until they made sure it was up! |
There is ofcorse OpenOffice http://www.openoffice.org

As an added note:
A couple of years back Corel had plenty of Linux information (pages) regarding wordperfect for lInux This has indeed changed. Judging by press documents posted on their site it looks like they've made a deal w/ the devil (Microsoft) I wouldn't get your hopes up. |

Well the only reason I turn away from OpenOffice.org is because of a lack of grammar check, and a few other minor and easily fixable problems that are important to me (such as the lack of a method to number the pages without a number on the first page)

How does the saying go? "Ask and thou shall receive?" http://libwpd.sourceforge.net/ ;) |

Grammer checkers are almost universally considered a last resort as they are usually wrong. As far as numbering , for those who desire the first page to be a cover sheet etc, many start the page labels on page 2 (which technically would make it page 1 since *1 is not the cover sheet) At any rate what I would be looking at is what has continious Linux support. from what I've seen wordperfect isn't too conserned about supporting Linux, so why should you (a Linux user) worry about them. If OpenOffice isn't to your liking, there is also StarOffice, and KOffice (I may be off on the name) |
