won't shut down

I'm a newbie to linux and I've been using mandriva live cd the problem is that it won't shut down instead it freezes. Need help for these so that I can install.. Thanks

there are several boot time options such as "linux -noapic" and such that can solve these things. at boot, the disk should have an option for "boot options". Look at those and try the ones for apm or other power management options.
when you install linux, or after, you can have these options set automatically.

Are u getting stuck at the install process or is the install complete and you're not able to reboot the PC after logging in?

If its the latter try the commands - poweroff or shutdown or init 0 or init 1.
Please note, you would need to be logged as the superuser to be able to fire these commands
(If I am not mistaken i.e.)

If its the former - maybe your install CD is corrupted/scratched. If it's possible - try installing from a new CD.
