wol with Debris (solved)
 

Hi again, I have been trying desperately to get my server working with wol. i started this thread to see how to setup etherwake but also to solve the problem of not being to wake up the computer http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...2/#post3179016

I have had some great help as usual - but still in the same boat so to speak!

I did see somewhere about a problem with the 2.6.22.14-se-2 kernel not having wol support?

The Debris version I have installed is based on 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon - which of course is Ubuntu/Debian based and using the above kernel.

I haven't been able to confirm that statement,so I was wondering if there is anyone here that might have seen that?

I don't mind changing my kernel or distro for that matter, although, it would be a shame to do so.

As always I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Hi again, just to let you know the post I read about the kernel I am using not supporting wol was unfounded.

I have followed the instructions (manual)given in the following link

This info created a init script that worked like a dream.

Bear this in mind if you are working with Ubuntu based distros!!

Hi again, well, I didn't think I would be writing about more disappointments with wol - but here I am again wondering what is wrong.

The latest is that I can start my server after I have physically turned it on and then powered it down via webmin. I can then turn it on and off as many times as I like by sending magic packets - but if I leave the computer for a while and try again - nada!!

For some reason the shutdown seems to become permanent after a period of time?

What could cause the computer to be without total power unless I, do as stated above, turn it physically on?

Had anyone had any experience of this type of situation?
