Witch distro is the most compatible.

What distro is most compatible and least broken?

What I mean is what flavor of linux includes all of SDL witch isen't broken
and has no problems listening to the user...I have found the following distros annoying and I will tell you why:

Slackware - kernel 2.6.3 works and hardware works but lacks working packages (SDL mixer, Digikam, Gphoto2 and the nessary libs to compile them) and the lib's paths are missed up cause I get a load of compile errors.

Suse - YaST2 takes a hissie when you use kernel 2.6.3 and it likes to pretend my soundcard is there sometimes but not others . It also has problems listening to me ... when I configure X it pretends I did nothing and uses it's own unknown config witch is VERY ANNOYING!

Can someone point me to a linux distro that actully works the way it should and has ALL the nessary libs and programs to compile other programs?

And please don't point me to LFS the person who wrote that howto couldn't write his/her way out of a paper bag!

No distro is perfect. Each one has it's flaws and goodies. Ultimately, the decision will be on you.

I've personally worked with Fedora, which is a subsiderary of RedHat.

I'd suggest try out Fedora, less you want to start a religious war.

if ya tryed LFs then mybe try core linux, i used to LFS instrustions to recompile everyhting from source then do it again (exept for glibc, that was only 1 time cuse i dont wanna wait like all day just for somthing that works fine to recompile), that way thsoe messed up LFS instructtions are pretty much taken care of as you only need to compile and not do that tricky stuff, pluss core linux is a pretty basic dristro, and doesnt even include xfree86 or any GUI in its install, you know everyhting will work sence everything you have to install yourself, so unless your runing on a time scecdule mybe take a look? http://coredistro.sourceforge.net/
the only problem with it is that it only suports ext2/3 FS so if your using a difrent FS like i do then try lnx-bbc bootable cdrom, from there you can chroot over to the core distor install and compile what you need to get it to boot up teh way you want it to

I will give that a shot too .. I use EXT2 anyways I dont like any other file system

I'm editing this because I don't feel like double posting

I have tryed Core Linux is it would be cool the only problem is I can't format my driebs cause core linux only supports 5 nodes and I use Hda3, hda 5 hda 6 hda 7 hda 8 ....
