Unhappy Wireless LAN PCI Card Help

Me and my housemates share our internet connection wirelessly, and this all works fine. However, I recently installed Mandrake, and can't seem to get my wireless pci card working. All the box tells me is that its made by Texas Instruments, and even if I could be bothered to take off my computers case and get the serial number off the card itself, there don't seem to be any linux drivers offered on TI's site. The device is displayed in the hardware tab in the control centre as using a module called something like 'acx100', but when I try to add a new conenction, and am promtped to choose a driver, and I choose that module, I am taken back to the 'Manually choose driver screen', without an error message. Does this mean the driver is unsuitable? And if so where can I find a suitable one? I'm pretty much a newbie at Linux, having rarely used it, so I have no idea what to do...

Any ideas?

You can run:
Code:
lspci -v
to find the exact model and chipset of your wireless card. Then go to acx100 to see if it's supported and how to install and use the driver.

If lspci does report back it being an acx100 chipset, check the sourceforge page as previously suggested, or maybe this will help - http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php

Also if all else fails, you can cheat and wrap your windows drivers using ndsiswrapper (http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/), or driverloader (http://www.linuxant.com/driverloade...98a3c026bee271d).

Using ndiswrapper with acx100's often causes problems with wep due to firmware issues, but worth a shot if you can find a compatible driver. Usually you need a separate module though.

It was funny how md9547 waited only about three hours before assuming no one had an answer. I guess we can all be a little impatient at times.

Back to the issue at hand, if you do decide to buy a new PCI wireless adapter...well...good luck. I ventured down that road about a month ago and it's rather bleak. I was hoping to find a good Linksys card or some other brand I recognised but the new hardware "versions" all seem to have Broadcom chipsets or some other junk (closed hardware specs, no Linux drivers) like that.

So, ndiswrapper is our friend as it turns out. And I am very happy because I had not heard of that driver project for the acx100 chipset. Now I can take a particular CardBus adapter out of retirement. But I am not buying hardware with a TI chipset again; or Broadcom if I can avoid it.
