Have just recently installed winex 1.02 on my mandrake 8.1 machine, and i am impressed.
Have successfully got starcraft, settlers 4, going so far. Game installs were as painless as doing them in windows. My machine is currently only running a s3 virge video card so I am extremely pleased about getting the games going. Will try other games when my new geforce2 ti card turns up.
any one else using winex and if so what have there experiences been?
I installed winex just this weekend. I have been playing Baldur's Gate II for the last couple of days and it runs just fine. I can see using winex for now, but I hope that more games in the future are sold in Linux format already. On this note, I can't wait for Never Winter Nights!!
I dont have it becuase it doesn't run on FreeBSD but my friend has it on Mandrake 8.1 and he has gotten Half Life to work with it fine so i guess im pleased with the program. Just waiting for those damn 3d drivers to port to the FreeBSD platform....
yep im with you, winex is great for the moment, but native linux games would be the best situation. And with the current interest surrounding the linux operating system we might just see that happening more. I know loki do a lot of ports of games to linux.
For now winex seems to be the solution for gaming under linux for those games that dont already have binaries or a full port out.
