WINE to use Internet Explorer

Hey I've seen screenshots of people running Internet Explorer in linux using WINE. Personally I have no idea whatsoever on how to use wine. Any Ideas on how I might get IE to run on wine? Thanks

Code:

wine "/mnt/c/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe"
Argh. Awful browser. Stop crashing and hogging my system resources! And why can't you interpret CSS correctly? ARGHHHH

Code:

killall -9 wine
galeon

Ahhhhh.

well I got wine working sorta.... i dont have windows installed on my machine so running it from a windows partition is out of the question. I tried to use wine on the ie6 setup and it says "this program will not run on this version of windows" I went back to ms's site and got internet explorer 5 and got some different results. The installer itself would launch but, when it tries to go out to the net to communicate with MS the program crashes. I thought the solution would be to find a full installer, but I can't find one anywhere. Well guys.... I'm stumped. Any ideas besides bashing on IE?

Why bother about IE when you have so many good browsers in linux?

Any perticular reson.

Yes, Internet Explorer is a heap of shit, but far ne it from me if you want to run bug ridden closed source spyware on yr machine, seems to defeat the point of linux though!

anywaygo and have a look at this page here for an update regarding porting this piece of crap for UNIX systems. Not sure if you'll get it to run on Linux though, but if you can, you can eliminate wine, and have a more stable (hah!) setup of internet explorer...

Happy surfing!

thanks, but i read the page and its not compatible with linux... (surprise, surprise) The reason I wanted to install internet explorer is not necessarly for the browser, but for running an emulation enviornment on linux that even the cursed windows installer can't see through. I myself run netscape 6.2 and opera on this linux box, and I am still interested if anybody has any tips for making the emulation work. Thanks!

Mozilla and Opera....................................even in windows I use opera.

can anyone give me some serious help with this please?

jayakrishnan 04-13-2002 12:28 AM

Hi

It wont work . as installing IE6 requires you to connect to the net and download the required files. You may try to download it into a single package and try to install it.
