This is a Linux/Windows question. I have Knoppix on one of my HDs, and I'm trying to install Windows ME on my second drive. Problem is, even though I've changed the BIOS to boot from the CD-ROM first, the Windows setup won't start. It flashes 'Boot from CD...' for a second, then goes straight to LILO, which gives me the two options of booting Linux, or the Windows(hda4) partition, which is empty.
And I can't find anyone who has had a similar problem to this. Does anybody have some insight? It would be much appreciated.
All I wanna do is play my games that don't run in Linux...

there should be an option in your bios that enables/disables "fastboot" or possibly "quickboot" set that option to "no" or "disable". i've seen it even stop one from entering bios. if that doesn't work, try shutting the machine down for say 10 mins. sometimes it takes a "coldboot" to get that funtion to work properly. some other things to consider, you will have problems getting linux to boot after installing any version of windows, it wrecks the mbr. so have a search here on the forums about that.
good luck.
you wont have a problem, windows will write over the MBR and then youll have to uae a rescue disk to boot into your linux hard drive and run lilo to rewrite the MBR,
but with your problem if what PEACEDOG
doesent work try disableing booting from a hard drive in the BIOS, that should force the cdrom to boot
Unplug the drive with Linux on it and put the second drive on the master plug of the first controller. Install ME. Swap the drives back and boot into Linux. Make a mount point to represent your windows drive. Say /mnt/windows
Then, add a line to your /etc/fstab:
/dev/hdb1 /mnt/windows vfat defaults 0 0
That'll allow you to mount the drive (at least as root)
Then, edit your /etc/lilo.conf with an extra stanza:
other=/dev/hdb1
label="windows"
boot-as=0x80
You should have a dual boot system with mountability from Linux to the ME drive (BTW you can use it as a place to share files between OSs). If you want more info on multi-boot, hit the search button under my post. I have addressed this a few times.
It seems the problem is my Windows ME CD. Every time I try and run from it, my computer gives me a non-system disk error. Which is very odd because it will run my XP CD just fine. Unfortunately, the product key I have for XP is invalid, so that's why I'm trying to install ME.
So I'm pretty stumped on this one. I guess I'll take a look at some Windows forums, see what I can find out, if anything. But hey, thanks to you guys(or girls) who gave me some advice. (vectordrake, PEACEDOG, SciYro)
