Windows cant open files after editting in linux

i've edited a few files that I started editting in Windows, but then edited in linux with either kwrite or quanta, and when I try opening them in windows, it tells me that the file is corrupted. For a couple of these files, I tried changin the "end of line" setting to windows/dos in kwrite and they opened up in windows afterward (coincidentially or not). The only problem is that I don't know if I can set this as a permanent setting since it seems i have to do it every time i open a file. any suggestions?

If it's just a newline character issue, you can pipe the documents through unix2dos, but I don't know that there's a default setting to save them this way

When you get ready to save a file in your editor, check to see if there is an option to save it as a 'DOS text' file. (Open Office Writer has this option.) I usually save most of the stuff I do in Rich Text Format (.RTF), because this can be opened in every word processor I have ever had to use. It sometimes will lose some weird formatting, but that can be changed in the target software.
