Question Windowmaker 0.80 on Suse 7.3

Can anybody give me some easy steps on how to upgrade the delivered version to this version? I actually got it to work after manipulating way too many files. There has to be an easier way to do this. Can somebody give me a hand on this?

Thanks

well, i don't know exactly what you want... but if you're looking for ways to customize windowmaker, then that's pretty simple.

first off, if you've never run windowmaker before, you're gonna need to run wmaker.inst in order for the managers files to be installed into your home dir. after that you should be able to start it up just fine (if you can't then there are probably issues with X).

windowmaker is quite a bit more difficult and confusing to customize than fluffy gnome or kde, you mostly have to download/install tools in order to help you along the way. i recommend the following program: http://freshmeat.net/projects/wmakerconf/ wmakerconf is great editing your menus, event handlers, and so on.

hope this helps :-)

I guess I should have been a little clearer. Suse by default comes with Windowmaker 0.65. It comes with a customized menu which contains the Suse apps. What I would like to do is upgrade to 0.80 and still keep the menu setup the way it was. Now, by default, the 0.80 version installs itself in a different directory then the delivered. The problem happens when I try to call a style or background. I get nothing. Should I edit the Makefile and point it to the 0.65 installation directory or just live with the way it is and be quiet?

just copy your windowmaker config files... mine are in ~/GNUstep/Defaults/. you should be all set to go.... unless there are differences between the two versions, which i wouldn't know about.
