I recently switched my server runlevel to 3 and I don't notice any updating of any kind going on, does the updater run in runlevel 3? If it is possible, how do I do it? Is it a service that I need to start? If so, how?
We don't magically know what your updater is. So, you are going to have to be more specific. We don't even know what distribution you are using. However, updates are not usually automatic, and making unattended updates in a production server is asking for problems.
So, try telling us what distro do you use, and what this "updater" that you mention is, where did you see it, I don't know... whatever detail is relevant.

I am running Fedora 11, the updater that I am referring to is the one that runs in Gnome, I think it is called Package Updater, the icon appears in the taskbar next to the clock when there is an update available. I wondered if there was a service similar to it for runlevel 3.
