why running mplayer as the root is different?

I can play some files in mplayer as the root while as an oridnary user I can run some other formats but it always warns me:New face failed, supply the text font file in .mplayer

I cannot play 3gp nokia files using root buy as on ordinart user I can.
why is there such difference?

Look for any differences between the files in:
/root/.mplayer/
and
~/.mplayer/
