Just wanted to ask if anyone experienced KDE being slow? That is, everything that I launch such as web browser or any other application, home directory, etc takes ages to open. Ideas on how to fix this are welcome.
In an attempt to actually answer your question, may I ask if you are stating KDE 3.3 is slow in general or are you saying KDE 3.3 is slower than KDE 3.2 was on Slackware 10 before you upgraded.
If you are comparing an upgrade to a previous version on the same machine, then you may indeed have a legitimate problem that needs to be addressed because, in my case KDE 3.3 is a bit snappier than 3.2 on slackware-current.
If you are just making a statement that KDE 3.3 is slow, then perhaps the other replies are not as f'ing stupid and self-serving as they seemed to me when I first read them.
Could be video problem? I have a P4 2.4 w/ 512MB. Just installed FreeBSD 5.3 and KDE 3.3. It ran fine at first but my Raedon 7000 could only go to 6x4 in X, so I put in an old ATI PCI card. Now it displays 10x7, but is too slow to use. I'm talking literal minutes between click and response for opening programs. Most programs do work at normal speed once they're launched though (ie- asteroids, koffice, etc)
