im currecntly downloading mint and fedora
ive heard that fedora has a very hard way to setup the nvidia driver .. witch is problem ..
will mint help ... or the fedora 64 dvd ??

im not looking for the easiest way
im willing to compile and read some forum articles to make everything working
but still .. i find it weird that some distro work better than others
and thats why im continuing to download other distros and not sticking with one .....
i still didnt work on mint and fedora .. when i will .. and if ill get into a rough spot ill post new thread
thnx for all
The easiest way is to use the 32bit version. Are you doing something that need more than 4Gb in a single process?

Shrug... "Where do you want to go today?"

Maybe "the Windows experience" is just what you want, and if Windows is doing what you want, then throw a nice tip into the jar of all the hard-working software engineers at Microsoft and be happy!

If you want to experiment with Linux, use a separate computer with which to do it. No, don't futz-around with dual-booting or anything. Also, don't expect the user-experience to be the same. Different groups of software engineers ... different work ... "it's all good."

"Better" is a relative term. Find what's "better" for you. That's why you own a "personal" computer.

Are there really people who can't be bothered installing additional packages after the initial OS install? Also, there are so many packages available in the Ubuntu and Debian repos it's hard to believe that something big is still missing.

again im not looking for the easiest resort
ill give an example of a case!!
i have now installed linux mint
out of the box experience is ok !
it runs ok .. it autodetected my monitor optimal resolution and frequencies
nvidia driver had to be downloaded and it says that the wireless card is detected or so it seems!!
after updating everything nvidia card has been activiated
although it is performing a little worse than lets say mandriva one
live session
but at the moment i dont care about the visual performance
im simply trying to connect wirelessly
and its not working
its not detecting the wireless card
whats so frustrating about all this is ...
why some distros detect thing and others dont !!

Wireless networking has been difficult to get working in linux. The last couple of years has gotten easier. There will still be issues with this area in linux from distro to distro.

Fedora and ubuntu have worked well in laptops in recent months. Have you tried ndiswrapper? If you had or will try ndiswrapper, you'll need to disable certain modules from loading as this will cause conflicts with ndiswrapper and there are times when the wireless module(s) are working, but the network manger program does not work well with the card. A better network manager program is called wicd. People say its better than the default network manager supplied by the distro.

Like I said in my first reply, if certain hardware is still giving you problems in native linux, I suggest using linux in a virtual machine. VM utilizes your existing hardware to work in a virtual environment.

BTW, run lspci and lsmod so we can see what wireless device/chipset you have and what modules are getting loaded and post the results here.
