Why does this happen?

Hi i am using suse 10.. I have installed matlab 10 .. I have tried to create a shortcut icon for matlab . so i have created a link to matlab application. When i use this the shortcut the matlab banner appears and after some secs everything dissapears and the matlab dont even start. I have changed a little the shprtcut and i have added the option start from terminal. Now matlab starts fine.. Can u explain me that? I have the same behavior when i use in kde alt+f2 and i type matlab (matlab never start) but when i launch matlab inside a terminal everything goes fine

Can you start Matlab from the command line? if so, then make sure that the link you are creating points to the right executable file.
