Question Why after start of a command the invitation for input next command has not appeared.

Why after start of a command the invitation for input next command has not appeared. For example. postgres @ core.pgsql. But only the flickering cursor.

So if you start something like firefox from a console like this:

philip@debian:~$ firefox

why you don't get a next command? That's because the program is still running. If you want it started (in the background I think it's called) run it like this "firefox &" then you can do a new command.

postmaster is still sending its log to the terminal. What you want is:

postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data >logfile 2>&1 &

Where logfile is the name of the file where the log is saved.

Was postgresql installed with the OS or did you install it from source?
