Which rel. of libpcap for RH9?????

Hello there!
We are out on a project that invloves capturing packets on a fast/gigabit LAN, as one of the chief objectives. We were told by our guide that libpcap is best suited for such cases. However, we are clueless as to which release of libpcap works best with Red Hat 9 (Shrike). Could someone please help me out please?

I'm assuming your going to use Ethereal as libpcap by itself is not very usefull. Then libpcap-0.8.3 should work just fine.
