Which Desktop Environment You Use?

which desktop environment do you use most?

fancypiper 06-19-2003 02:32 PM

I use a window manager.

1. fluxbox
2. enlightenment

It's hard to pick number one.

acid_kewpie 06-19-2003 02:33 PM

where's blackbox?

you know, this has been asked so so so so so many times, did you try searching?

lokee 06-19-2003 04:33 PM

Desktop Environements(gnome, kde...) and Window managers(IceWM, WindowMaker...) aren't the same thing, WM just handle windows, while DE provide more stuffs, like File managers(konqueror, nautilus...) among other things.

I was about to add the same thing after I added Blackbox, but since I can't edit the title, we can just pretend he said, "What Desktop/Window Manager do you use?"

esteeven 06-19-2003 05:01 PM

surely fvwm should be listed? I protest..

synaptical 06-19-2003 05:02 PM

i use fluxbox, and just add links to the menu for when i need to use konqueror, gftp, etc. :D

Yes, i did try searching but i wanted to be able to see the results in a summarized graphical poll form, instead of having to read through 100's of posts.
Maybe a poll has been taken already? If so, i apologize.

Anyways, these were OLD threads; tastes change with time... so they probably weren't up to date.

Added as well to the poll.

So, will you add the OpenLook Virtual Window Manager (olvwm) to the poll if I also protest the lack of my favorite window manager? ;)
Soon, maybe we'll have 36000 choices in the poll!

(sorry, just feeling like a smart alec tonight).

KDE on my primary machines, and IceWM on my slower machines. I love all the eyecandy and functionality of KDE, but there's just something special about watching IceWM boot up in under 5 seconds on my old K6-2 350. :)

Thymox 07-06-2003 07:06 PM

I use SawFish as my main WM, but I am in the process of setting up an account called music that will run a remarkably large xmms on the TV (when I get around to sorting out my X config) with no WM - just plain ol' X.

Oh, and I'm in the process of setting up my other machine with IceWM and fbdesk to look and behave as much like Windows as I can (for my parents to play with).

Unfortunately I would but the poll limits it to just 10 choices.. bummer really, as there are so many choices to choose and use.
