where is the button? java installation

i am using the latest kde

i downloaded the java plugin for linux from sun, succesfully changed permission to execute bin file.

in a terminal window,a agreement pops up,and says that i should "accept" or "decline" using the button at the bottom of the agreement.

there is no button!

as a newbie, (about 3 days, love linux, fasssst!) and a brave little monkey, i pushed every function key and every random combination keys i could,
but cannot find that button!

thanks

Have you tried the ctrl + or - keys to zoom in or out to see if the button is unviewable or what about your 4 viewable screens, usually if the window is larger than the screen, it hangs on the other screen below or off to the side.

Try hitting "enter" or "tab" then "enter" or "tab", "tab", and then "enter"

:)

but what about tab then enter, or enter then tab, maybe both at once......at the same time.
sorry, just being a smartalic. i think i spelled that right, just ignore me, i am bored at work.

what if there is no enter button, i sometimes see things to accept by hitting a Fx whatever button to accept.

well this is happening in a terminal window

if i try to install it using mc it goes to a terminal window, it won't work from the gui.

what is this Fx button thing?

someone must have had to install the java plugin, and had this exact problem.

i am going nuts! but is a good nuts.it's cool to be ignorant again and have something new to learn.

I meant Fx like in the F1 - F8 keys or something like that.

I DID IT!

the buttons you push to access the accept/decline option are

esc / alt+q

now of course the java dosn't work in konqueror, but i will work on that for a day or so before buggin out!

what distro. are you using?

Some people say there are problems with RH 7.0 and you can not install Java on those machines.

noni 05-14-2001 04:08 PM

peanut linux distro, same thing, same problem really.

i tried using the earlier version of java from sun, that worked, but it dosn't install itself, and more importantly it was OLD!

so i got the java runtime from ibm, which installs. you still have to "aim" konqueror at it, using settings in the toolbar.

if you are really new, (i'm under 3wks) this info might be really helpful

information on where installed packages are installed to is in var/log/packages.

java is a slow and clunky loader with konqueror, prepare to be unimpressed. so slow that i discovered

hdparm switches, linux out of the box dosn't support 32bit i/o, dma etc. so start here
http://linux.oreillynet.com/pub/a/li...29/hdparm.html

my buffered disk reads went from around 4.50 MB/Sec to around 15.50 MB/sec. speeding up the loading of applets in konqueror, and EVERYTHING else!

i'm also gonna ask some questions about hdparm here, cause i've gotten great performance but, i modified a switch that makes hardrive work better, but isn't in the manpage so i don't know why. hdparm is very important. find out more about it!
