whats your sound card ?
i have an on-board SIS-713 or somthing like that, i used to use alsa with that fine, although now ive dissabled it in the bios, and am using a PCI sound card.

it worked fine, no static.

just make sure none of the alsa-mixer volume channels are in the red, and sound wasnt bad... although it only supported 2 cannels (which is why i replaced it)

its stange you have this problem, alsa ive found was much better than OSS.. which is why OSS is being dumped.

oh well.. aslong as all is wokring for you now.

I get rid of the static in kde by turning off IEC958 in kmix, when I use fluxbox I have no problem, also I don't enable the sound in kde control center.

Need to remove OSS and use only ALSA

Hmm, my sound is working but only 2 channesl and it is using i810_audio. I do not want that, I want ALSA and I tried installALSAO (1.05a) but could not 'modprobe snd-intel8x0' errors showing somethings like wrong parms, I cannot understand why.

How can 'remove' i810_audio from the kernel ???
Thanks.

Never mind. I decided to fresh install FC 2 and now no more i810_audio. It seems to exist in FC1 and when I upgraded to FC2 it is still there somewhere that I could not locate, remove or unload.
