Where is the data folder for webserver?

I am using php, mysql and apache. I know that php and apache are working but when I run my php files it keeps saying can't connect to database. I tried searching for data folder but was unsuccessful. I want to know where is the databases folder located, so I can test my databases? Before I was using php, mysql, and apache on windows.

Usually it mysqls databases are in /var/lib/mysql. If you installed it from source then it is under the directory you installed mysql to (i.e /usr/local/mysql/data).
