Where are programs files and configuration files stored?

Where are all the files needed by particular programs, and where are the configuration things for that particular stored? Ok say for example KMail, where are the icons stored, where are the configuration things stored? Where are the program files for that? IF i am correct, the /bin directory only stores the executable file.

that can vary depending on the program.. that question is too vague to answer. you want to find documentation and readup on each program most likely.

Most configuration files are in /etc.
