Where are my environment variables coming from?

Hi to all,

I have a question regarding environment variables. Having looked at all the startup files mentioned in the forums (/etc/bashrc, /etc/profile/, home/.basrc etc...), I can't find where all the enviroment variables (resulting from the 'env' command) are coming from.

Would be very grateful if someone could enlighten me!

Cheers,

Jon

The full documentation for env is maintained as a Texinfo manual. If
the info and env programs are properly installed at your site, the com-
mand

info env

should give you access to the complete manual.

env (coreutils) 4.5.3
This is from the man page...........

They're set from various sources, depending on what you have installed and how your system is configured. Any startup script which includes a line like "export VARIABLE=value" is modifying your environment
